Jackson Mays, known professionally as J on the Beat, is a 23-year-old independent hip-hop artist born and raised in Willis, Texas. J started writing original songs at a young age, progressing to recording tracks on his phone in a closet by age 13. At 17, J on the Beat made his performance debut in Houston, Texas, at The Secret Group bar, achieving success with 40 ticket sales and offers from small record labels. Currently, J on the Beat continues to create music as an independent artist.
